What is BS EN 10341 about?  

BS EN 10341 specifies safety requirements that are applicable to papermaking and paper finishing machines. It contains definitions and requirements that apply to all paper making and paper finishing machines listed in Annex A and is intended to be used in connection with the specific part applicable for the respective machine listed in Annex A. 

BS EN 10341 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations, or hazardous events relevant to papermaking and paper finishing machines, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse that are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. 

NOTES- 

  •  BS EN 10341 does not apply to machines used in paper converting. 
  • BS EN 10341 is not applicable to paper making and paper finishing machines manufactured before the date of its publication.

BS EN 10341 on safety requirements for papermaking and paper finishing machines is useful for:

The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations, or hazardous events are covered in BS EN 10341. 

BS EN 10341 ensures the safety when using papermaking and paper finishing machines to prevent injury/causes. It provides guidance to safely make and use the machines.  

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 10341:2021 supersedes EN 1034-1:2000+A1:2010. BS EN 10341:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 1034-1:2000+A1:2010. These include: 

  • In 3.4, a tolerance for crawl speed was specified 
  • In 3.6.3, the addition of a definition for trapping points 
  • In 5.1.2, clarification on the use of signal colours 
  • In 5.4.4, the addition of safety requirements for trapping points at reel fronts 
  • In 5.14.1, the addition of requirements for positioning of control devices
