What is PD CEN/TR 614-3-Ergonomic principles for the design of mobile machinery about?

PD CEN/TR 614 is a technical report on the safety of machinery that discusses the ergonomic principles for the design of mobile machinery to ensure safety from machinery hazards.

PD CEN/TR 614-3 is the third part of the PD CEN/TR 614 series that establishes the ergonomic principles to be followed during the design process of mobile machinery with special emphasis on the aspects in which mobile machinery differs from static machinery.

The ergonomic design principles specified by PD CEN/TR 614-3 apply to either or both seated and standing positions.

PD CEN/TR 614-3 is applicable for the design of mobile (self-propelled and towable) machines to ensure ergonomic working conditions for the operator.

PD CEN/TR 614-3 applies only to driving and operating mobile machinery and not to performing other tasks (e.g., sorters on a potato harvesting machine).

PD CEN/TR 614-3 also applies to vehicle-mounted machinery when observing their functional properties e.g., mobile cranes.

Note1: Pedestrian-controlled and handheld machinery are not included in PD CEN/TR 614-3. Installing, cleaning, and repairing mobile machinery is not included.

Note2: EN 614-1 provides a framework for incorporating ergonomics principles in the design process. This framework helps designers to perform ergonomics analyses and design actions at the appropriate stages of the design process.

Note3: EN 614-2 provides principles of the design of the work tasks in interaction with machinery design. This framework helps designers to focus on the work task design and on the optimal allocation of work tasks between the operator and the machine.

Who is PD CEN/TR 614-3-Ergonomic principles for the design of mobile machinery for?

PD CEN/TR 614-3 on ergonomic principles for the design of mobile machinery is useful for:

  • Mobile machinery manufacturers
  • Mobile machinery designers
  • Mobile machinery test personal
  • Occupational health and safety departments
  • Risk assessment authorities
  • Quality assurance departments

Why should you use PD CEN/TR 614-3-Ergonomic principles for the design of mobile machinery

Good ergonomic design exerts a favourable influence on the whole work system, and on the reliability of the human being within it. Implementing ergonomic solutions can make employees more comfortable and increase productivity.

PD CEN/TR 614-3 provides you with guidance on ergonomic design principles concerning anthropometry and biomechanics, ergonomic design principles concerning work tasks, accessible design for people with special requirements, design of workplaces, design of signals, displays and control actuators, mental workload, visibility, environmental factors, information for use, etc.

The design principles provided by PD CEN/TR 614-3 assist you in improving the design and performance of mobile machinery enhancing safety, improving human working conditions, and counteracting adverse effects on human health and performance.

With obedience and compliance to PD CEN/TR 614-3, you can enhance mobile machinery’s effectiveness and efficiency and manufacture a standardized high-quality product.
