What is BS EN 16830 - Temperature Control function about?

BS EN 16830 discusses safety and control devices for burners and appliances burning gaseous or liquid fuels. BS EN 16830 specifies the safety, design, construction, and performance requirements for Temperature Control Function (TCF) and Combustion Product Discharge Safety Device (TTB) intended for use with burners and appliances using gaseous or liquid fuels.

BS EN 16830 also describes the test procedures for checking compliance with these requirements. BS EN 16830 is applicable to AC and DC supplied TCF and TTB (for TCF and TTB supplied by the stand-alone battery system, battery systems for mobile applications, or systems that are intended to be connected to DC supply networks). BS EN 16830 is applicable to electronically based TTB and TCF only.

Who is BS EN 16830 Temperature Control function for?

BS EN 16830 on temperature control function for burners and appliances using gaseous or liquid fuels is useful for:

  • Gas appliance manufacturers
  • Health and safety bodies
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN 16830 Temperature Control function?

The temperature control function (in the following called TCF) is a system that consists of temperature sensing, signal processing, switching actions (on/off or protective action), and reset.

The Appliance Control Function TTB (Combustion Product Discharge Safety Device) is intended to provide protection against poisoning and suffocation in case of a (partially) blocked flue.

BS EN 16830 provides you with guidance on test conditions and measurement tolerance. BS EN 16830 guides you with the construction requirements. BS EN 16830 also provides a performance test and guides you with electrical requirements and electromagnetic compatibility. BS EN 16830 helps you maintain the safety of the burners and appliances using gaseous or liquid fuels.
