What is PD CLC/TS 62441 - Safeguards against accidental candle flame ignition about?
PD CLC/TS 62441 introduces safeguards to reduce the likelihood of room flash-over as a result of accidental ignition of exterior housings of audio/video and information communication technology products likely to be used in the home, caused by a candle flame.
Note: According to AC/22/2009 and SMB decision 135/20, this technical specification should currently only be used for television sets. It can be used for other products only if a risk assessment indicates problems with these products.

A flammable region on the outside surface of a single item to which a simulated candle flame is applied is referred to as a candle flame accessible area.
PD CLC/TS 62441 assists you with Control of fire growth to reduce the likelihood of spread of fire to adjacent items by limiting the fire growth and determining candle flame accessible areas. Candle flame accessible areas are considered to be the following exterior surfaces of an individual item:
- Surfaces that are vertical to or overhanging the supporting surface and are located between 10 mm and 150 mm directly above the supporting surface (see Figures 1a and 1b)
- The bottom of the individual item, unless it rests directly on the supporting surface or is within 10 mm of the supporting surface in its normal position of use.
Overall, PD CLC/TS 62441 can be used to recognize candle flame-exposed areas, doors and drawers, and safeguard against the spread of fire to adjacent items caused by candle flame ignition by limiting the fire growth.

PD CLC/TS 62441:2012 supersedes DD CLC/TS 62441:2007 which is withdrawn.
PD CLC/TS 62441:2012 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to DD CLC/TS 62441:2007:
- Acceptance of wood with a minimum thickness as equivalent to V-1
- Interpretation of information regarding vertical surfaces
