What is ISO 2285 – Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic about?

ISO 2285 specifies the number of methods of determining the dimensional changes in test pieces of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber during and after tensile loading for relatively short periods under constant elongation or constant loading.

The constant-elongation test described in ISO 2285 is intended to measure the ability of rubbers to retain their elastic properties after extension, at a standard laboratory temperature, to a specified strain which is maintained for a specified time at the same or a specified higher temperature and then released at the test temperature or the standard laboratory temperature.

Note: The constant-load test is primarily intended for the measurement of the state of cure and the quality control of thin-walled products. An increase in the state of cure or degree of crosslinking is usually reflected in a decrease in the set, creep or elongation.

Who is ISO 2285Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic for?

ISO 2285 on adhesives is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of Vulcanized rubber
  • Chemical engineers
  • Any entity responsible for testing and quality of rubber and thermoplastic

Why should you use ISO 2285 Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic for?

A vulcanization process involves heating rubber with sulphur, accelerator and activator at 140–160°C.

ISO 2285 provides methods and requirements for determining the tension set under constant elongation and creep under constant tensile load in rubber and thermoplastic material.

ISO 2285 specifies a test method for determining elongation, creep, and tension set at standard laboratory temperatures of rubbers that are subjected to a constant load.

Overall, ISO 2285 is a comprehensive guide to provide methods for determining the tension set under constant elongation, so users will gain a comprehensive understanding of the quality of vulcanized rubber to improve durability and strength
