What is ISO 4647 about?

ISO 4647 is an international standard for vulcanised rubber that specifies the test method which helps in conducting the test. ISO 4647 is useful in evaluating the adhesion between the rubber and textile cord.

ISO 4647 specifies a method for the determination of the static adhesion of textile cord to vulcanized rubber using the H-pull test.

Note: ISO 4647 is applicable to cords made from natural or man-made fibres.

Note: ISO 4647 can be applied, if desired, to similar cords for use in other rubber products, but it is limited to cords of linear density not exceeding 800 mg/m (tex).

Who is ISO 4647 for?

ISO 4647 on Rubber, vulcanized is useful for:

  • Manufacturer of automotive
  • Manufacturer of shoes
  • Manufacturer of insulation materials
  • Manufacturer of toys
  • Manufacturer of rubber hoses

Why should you use ISO 4647

Vulcanized is a chemical process in which the rubber is heated with sulphur. This process helps in the formation of a cross-link between long rubber molecules.

ISO 4647 helps in measuring the adhesion which is necessary for the shearing force acting at the cord-to-rubber interface. For vulcanizing conditions, both the time and temperature are specified.

ISO 4647 is useful in determining the thickness of the rubber compound which is required to fill the mould completely. The time interval between vulcanizing and testing is observed for the technical process. By describing the appearance of the cord you will be able to ensure that the rubber has remained adhered to it or not.

ISO 4647 acts as your best guide in measuring the force required to pull a single cord from a block of vulcanized rubber this is done by assessing the adhesion between the rubber and textile cord. The force applied to the rubber helps in fixing the longitudinal axis of the cord and the length of the cord embedded in the rubber.
