What is ISO 6450 about?  

ISO 6450 is a series on rubbers. Rubber, also called India rubber, latex, Amazonian rubber, caucho, or caoutchouc, as initially produced, consists of polymers of the organic compound isoprene, with minor impurities of other organic compounds. ISO 6450 specifies two methods of evaluating the resistance of rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics to the action of liquids by measurement of selected properties of the materials before and after immersion in selected liquids. 

The two methods are as follows:  

  • Method A: total immersion with liquid 
  • Method B: one surface side immersion with liquid

ISO 6450 on the determination of resistance to liquids is useful for:

Why should you use ISO 6450?  

The rubber is used extensively in many applications and products, either alone or in combination with other materials. A Coated Fabric is a fabric that has been treated to make them longer-lasting, stronger, and more weather resistant. Rather than interweaving a strengthening fibre directly into the fabric, these fabrics are coated with a substance that makes the fabrics’ surface more impervious to damage. ISO 6450 specifies two methods of evaluating the resistance of rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics to the action of liquids. 

By protecting the fabric from liquids, it strengthens the fabrics and quality levels of the fabrics. Which will increase the demand and supply of the fabric in the market. Using ISO 6450 you can specify two methods of evaluating the resistance of rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics to the action of liquids by measurement of selected properties of the materials. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN ISO 6450:2021 supersedes ISO 6450:2005. BS EN ISO 6450:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 6450:2005. These include: 

  • One surface side immersion with liquid has been added as method B 
  • The requirement to include CAS registry number when it is available has been added
