What is ISO 6101-2 - Lead content in rubber about ?

ISO 6101-2 is the first part of the multi-series standard that specifies an atomic absorption spectrometric method for the determination of the lead content of rubbers.

The method described in ISO 6101-2 applies to raw rubber and rubber products having lead contents at a minimum of 0,05 % (mass fraction). Lead contents below this limit can be determined, provided that suitable adjustments are made to the mass of the test portion and/or to the concentrations of the solutions used.

The use of the ISO 6101-2 addition method might lower the bottom limit of detection.

Who is ISO 6101-2 - Lead content in rubber for?

ISO 6101-2 on adhesives is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of rubber
  • Chemical engineers
  • Scientists and researchers
  • Any entity responsible for testing and quality assurance of rubber

Why should you use ISO 6101-2 - Lead content in rubber for?

Rubber is a tough, flexible material. Addition of lead to rubber lowers the plasticity of the rubber and strengthening it.  Lead is a popular metal added to rubber to increase it sturdiness.

ISO 6101-2 provides best practice guidance on methods and requirements for determining the lead metal content present in raw rubber using atomic absorption spectrometry.

ISO 6101-2 specifies procedures, principles, reagents, sampling methods, and testing to determine the lead concentration in a sample, as well as procedures for preparing standard calibration solution, tracking it on a calibration graph, and using spectrometric measurement to measure the lead concentration.

Overall, ISO 6101-2 is a comprehensive guide to provide methods for determining the lead metal content present in rubber, so users will gain a comprehensive understanding of the quality of rubber to improve durability and strength.
