What is ISO 7270‑1 about?
The ISO 7270 series discusses the analysis of rubber by the pyrolytic gas-chromatographic method. ISO 7270‑1 specifies a method for the identification of polymers, or blends of polymers, in raw rubbers and in vulcanized or unvulcanised compounds from pyrograms (pyrolysis-gas chromatographic patterns) obtained under the same conditions. This allows qualitative identification of single rubbers or blends.
The method applies first and foremost to single polymers. When the pyrogram indicates a characteristic hydrocarbon, the method is also applicable to blends. The method can be also applicable to other types of polymers when verified by the analyst in each particular case.
Note: ISO 7270‑1 is not intended for quantitative analysis.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 7270‑1:2020 replaces ISO 7270‑1:2003, of which it constitutes a minor revision. It also incorporates the Amendment ISO 7270‑1:2003/Amd.1:2010.The main change in BS ISO 7270‑1:2020 compared to ISO 7270‑1:2003 is that the normative references have been updated in Clause 2.
