What is BS EN 60034-19 ‒ Conventional and rectifier-fed supplied DC machines about ?

BS EN 60034-19 is a part of an international multi-series standard that deals with the aspects of rotating electrical machines.

BS EN 60034-19 applies to DC machines rated 1 kW and above operating on rectifier-fed power supplies, DC buses, or other DC sources.

BS EN 60034-19  provides standardized methods for determining characteristic quantities for conventional and rectifier-fed DC machines. These methods supplement the requirements in IEC 60034-1 and IEC 60034-2-1.

BS EN 60034-19 stipulates the technical specifications such as related terms and definitions, symbols, subscripts, determination of current and voltage specific quantities (rectifier-fed), determination of the armature circuit inductance, determination of shunt-field inductance, determination of black-band zone, determination of the maximum permissible rate of change of armature current, additional losses and efficiency of rectifier-fed DC motors, determination of speed regulation, etc., for conventional and rectifier-fed supplies DC machines.

Note 1: BS EN 60034-19 excludes DC machines for specific applications.

Note 2: It is not intended that BS EN 60034-19 should be interpreted as requiring the carrying out of any or all of the tests described therein on any given machine.

Who is BS EN 60034-19 ‒ Conventional and rectifier-fed supplied DC machines for ?

BS EN 60034-19 on conventional and rectifier-fed supplied DC machines is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers of rotating electrical machines
  • Safety certification providing entities for rotating electrical machines
  • Dealers and distributors of rotating electrical machines
  • Designers of rotating electrical machines
  • Regulatory authorities

Why should you use BS EN 60034-19 ‒ Conventional and rectifier-fed supplied DC machines ?

The rotating electrical machine consists of a stator, rotor, and air gap between them. The stator and rotor consist of winding in which the rotor is installed in the stem and then the stem connects to the motor and other loads.

BS EN 60034-19 provides you with the guidelines for verifying various parameters and characteristics of conventional and rectifier-fed supplied DC machines, which helps the users to assess and monitor the performance of these DC machines. The users can derive many functional aspects including efficiency and speed regulation of conventional and rectifier-fed supplied DC machines, which enables them to design and construct a customized product as per the consumer’s demands.

Thus, BS EN 60034-19 makes it feasible for its users to manufacture and assemble high-quality, efficient, and customized conventional and rectifier-fed supplied DC machines, according to international standards.
