What is PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 about?

PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 provides a consistent guideline for measuring and reporting end-winding vibration behaviour during operation and at standstill.

PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 with these guidelines aims to enable you to contain the increased end-winding vibrational levels when machine is operating or at standstill.

The winding overhang, or end-winding, is the portion of the stator winding that extends beyond the end of the magnetic core and is, in most cases, formed as a circular cone. Large AC rotating electrical machines are typically equipped with form-wound windings consisting of form wound coils, single winding coils (single winding bars) which are given their shape before being assembled into the machine.

  • It defines terms for measuring, analysis and evaluation of stator end-winding vibration and related structural dynamics
  • It gives guidelines for measuring dynamic / structural characteristics offline and stator end winding vibrations online.
  • It describes instrumentation and installation practices for end-winding vibration measurement equipment
  • establishes general principles for documentation of test results
  • describes the theoretical background of stator end-winding vibrations

Note: PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 is applicable to:

  • Three-phase synchronous generators, having rated outputs of 150 MVA and above driven by steam turbines or combustion turbines
  • Three-phase synchronous direct online (DOL) motors, having rated output of 30 MW and above.

Who is PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 for?

PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 on measuring stator end-winding vibration  is applicable for:

  • Manufactures of rotating electrical machines such as stator end-winding
  • Electrical design engineers
  • Companies dealing with electrical systems
  • Retailers and dealers of various rotating electrical machines.

Why should you use PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32?

Rotating electrical machine consists of a stator, rotor and air gap between them. Large AC machines are equipped with multiphase stator windings. The end-winding is the part of stator winding that extends beyond the end of the magnetic core.

PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 provides you the guidance on the components from stator end-winding support structure like rings, plates, spacers and fasteners as well as components for tightening, blocking and roving which support and fixes the stator end-winding, to avoid the operation of the machine with increased end-winding vibrational levels under the influence of natural frequencies.

PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32  gives the operational measurement of vibrational behaviour of stator end-windings which can be performed by installing the special vibration transducers for periodic measurements or permanent on-line monitoring.

PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32 also gives you the general measurement equipment such as calibration tests, environmental tests, and physical measurements which defines the suitability of motion transducers and load cells for the measurement of frequency response functions.

What’s changed since the last update?

PD CLC IEC/TS 60034-32:2021 supersedes PD IEC/TS 60034-32:2016, which is withdrawn.
