What is ISO 122971 about?  

ISO 122971 is the first part of the multi-series that is applicable to rolling bearings on cylindrical rollers. 

ISO 122971 specifies nominal boundary dimensions, geometrical product specifications (GPS) and tolerance values for finished steel cylindrical rollers for rolling bearings. The maximum roller diameter is 40 mm. 

Note: Annexes A and B give the sorting principles for roller diameter and roller length tolerances and gauges, respectively.

Why should you use ISO 122971?  

The load-carrying capability of roller bearings is larger than that of ball bearings. As a result, roller bearings, such as cylindrical, tapered, or spherical roller bearings, have become the default choice for handling radial stresses. Roller and cylindrical bearings are a type of rolling-element bearing in which the moving elements of the bearing are split by cylinders.  

ISO 12297-1 specifies nominal boundary dimensions, geometrical product specifications (GPS), and tolerance values. Adopting a standardised framework for designs can make sure components in assemblies are aligned. By meeting these standardised specifications, you can also impart uniformity and consistency to the manufacturing processes, thus catering to a wide range of engineering needs.

What’s changed since the last update?  

ISO 122971:2021 supersedes BS ISO 12297:2012, which is withdrawn. ISO 122971:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 12297:2012. These include: 

  • The geometrical product specification (GPS) system has been introduced into the document 
  • The document was revised editorially
