What is ISO/TS 121033 about?  

ISO/TS 12103 is a series of international standard on road vehicles to test soot contaminant. 

ISO/TS 121033 is the third part of the ISO/TS 12103 series of documents that is applicable to soot aerosol contaminants for evaluation of filter. 

ISO/TS 121033 defines particle size distribution by number and chemical content limits involving one grade of test aerosol made from combustion soot.

Why should you use ISO/TS 121033?  

Soot particles produced from the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon fuels by transportation represent a significant fraction of primary atmospheric aerosols and a soot filter is a device designed to remove soot particles, formed during the combustion process from the exhaust stream. 

ISO/TS 121033 provides soot contaminant definition and designation including generation of soot aerosol, particle size distribution, stability of aerosol concentration, and chemical composition. 

There are several possible methods of generating soot aerosol, to simulate the sub-micron mode for air filter testing purposes such as dispersing soot from a powder or using generated soot from a combustion process. 

Also provides test procedures for analysis of equipment and particle size of soot aerosols along with the instrument calibration to identify the soot aerosol. 

ISO/TS 121033 presents health hazards in handling soot test aerosol and describes the range of acceptable particle size distributions by defining parameters together with a set of tolerances.
