What is ISO 185413 about?

ISO 185413 is part three of the multi-series standard that includes functional user interface requirements related to automotive repair and maintenance information (RMI) systems in order to standardize access to RMI for independent operators.

ISO 185413 specifies all functional user interface requirements related to a vehicle manufacturer's RMI system. These requirements will reflect the deriving needs from the use cases specified in ISO 185411.

Who is ISO 185413 for?

ISO 185413 on functional user interface requirements for standardized access to automotive repair and maintenance information is applicable to:

  • Vehicle manufactures
  • Vehicle maintenance and repair shops
  • Vehicle owners
  • Vehicle spare parts manufacturers
  • Technicians working on vehicle repairs

Why should you use ISO 185413?

Standardized access to automotive repair and maintenance information makes it easier for the manufacturers and the repairers better understand and fix the problems in the vehicle.

ISO 185413 provides functional user interface requirements for RMI necessary to perform vehicle roadside assistance, inspection, diagnosis, repair and maintenance, including the updating and replacement of electronic control units (ECU). This will help you in improving the repair process.

ISO 185413 specifies the specific functional user interface requirements.

ISO 185413 provides the requirements for concepts to be able to implement navigational principles to minimize the impact on the existing VM RMI systems. The navigational pathway will not only lead the user to a navigated position but also help the user to follow the implementation of the use case to obtain the output. It also includes requirements for flexible navigational pathways for practical and state-of-the-art access to RMI in the VM websites.

ISO 185413 derives from the legislative requirements on European level in the field of RMI and related security requirements and can be referenced by legislation in other countries. Thus, allowing manufacturers to comply with legislative requirements.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 185413 cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 185413:2014), which has been technically revised.

  • The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
  • Document adopted to use cases updates taken in ISO 185411
