What is ISO 155009 about?

ISO 155009 is part nine of the multi-series standard that specifies tests and requirements for the pressure regulator, a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system component intended for use on the types of motor vehicles defined in ISO 3833.

ISO 155009 is applicable to vehicles (mono-fuel, bi-fuel, or dual-fuel applications) using natural gas in accordance with the ISO 15403 series.

Note-

ISO 155009 is not applicable to the following:

  • Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel system components located upstream of, and including, the
  • Vaporizer
  • Fuel containers
  • Stationary gas engines
  • Container-mounting hardware
  • Electronic fuel management
  • Refueling receptacles

Who is ISO 155009 for?

ISO 155009 on pressure regulator is useful for:

  • Compressed natural gas vehicle manufacturers
  • Compressed natural gas fuel system components manufacturers
  • Designers and manufacturers of the pressure regulator
  • Vehicle maintenance and repair shops

Why should you use ISO 155009?

ISO 155009 gives you marking instructions that will allow you to identify and trace the pressure regulator in the supply chain.

ISO 155009 specifies hydrostatic strength test to establish the strength of the pressure regulator. This test will help you make the pressure regulator more durable.

ISO 155009 lays out guidelines for the construction and assembly of the pressure regulator.

ISO 155009 provides a pressure impulse test to evaluate the performance of the components that may suffer from the effects of an instantaneous increase in pressure. In normal service, this may happen for example, when filling gas in an empty system or when a solenoid valve opens the flow of gas to an empty fuel line. Previous tests have revealed that certain designs cannot cope with these instantaneous pulses and the components tend to bend or jam.

What’s changed since the last update?

ISO 155009 is the third edition that cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 15500-9:2012), which has been technically revised. ISO 155009 also incorporates the Amendment ISO 15500-9:2012/Amd.1:2016.

The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:

  • Update of Clause 4 (Marking)
  • Update of Clause 6 (Test operation)
