What is ISO 15500‑14 about?
ISO 15500‑14 is part 14 of the multi-series standard that specifies tests and requirements for the excess flow valve, a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system component intended for use on the types of motor vehicles defined in ISO 3833.
ISO 15500‑14 is applicable to vehicles (mono-fuel, bi-fuel, or dual-fuel applications) using natural gas in accordance with the ISO 15403 series.
Note-
ISO 15500‑14 is not applicable to the following:
- Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel system components located upstream of, and including, the vaporizer
- Fuel containers
- Stationary gas engines
- Container-mounting hardware
- Electronic fuel management
- Refueling receptacles

Why should you use ISO 15500‑14?
ISO 15500‑14 gives you marking instructions that will allow you to identify and trace the excess flow valve in the supply chain.
ISO 15500‑14 provides requirements for two different designs: internal and external excess flow valves. A valve of either design could be one of two different types: shut-off or flow-limiter.
ISO 15500‑14 specifies hydrostatic strength test to establish the strength of the housing. This test will help you make the excess flow valve more durable.
ISO 15500‑14 lays out tests for leakage, excess torque resistance, pressure impulse, bending moment and continued operation.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 15500‑14:2020 is the third edition that cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 15500‑14:2012), which has been technically revised. BS ISO 15500‑14:2020 also incorporates the Amendment ISO 15500‑14:2012/Amd.1:2016. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:

- Update of 6.3 (Leakage test)
