What is BS EN 16661 - Interoperability of Tyre Pressure Gauges about?
BS EN 16661 discusses road vehicles and Tyre Pressure Gauges (TPG). Tyre Pressure Gauge is a pressure gauge used to measure the pressure of tires on a vehicle. BS EN 16661 applies to the tyre pressure gauges (TPG) which operate using pressure equipment (devices used in fixed or mobile installations) to inflate the tyres of the road using vehicles (M1 and M2 categories) and which may be capable of interacting with vehicles equipped with tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) whereby the TPG may be steered by the TPMS/vehicle.
To set the correct tyre inflation, BS EN 16661 defines requirements and processes for the interoperability of Tyre Pressure Gauge with TPMS/vehicle, through standardized interfaces and data exchange formats allowing advanced information, management, and control systems between Tyre Pressure Gauge and TPMS/vehicle. The architecture is open and scalable to support the different levels of interoperability (from full interoperability to fully manual). BS EN 16661 may be applied to all Tyre Pressure Gauge categories referenced in EN 12645. The driver/operator is considered as being responsible for the validation of the parameters and tyre pressure. BS EN 16661 will be applicable to the development of an Infrastructure solution (V2I-I2V communication solutions)
Note: BS EN 16661 does not define communication protocols (works specifically made under M/453 European mandate).
Who is BS EN 16661 - Interoperability of Tyre Pressure Gauges for?
BS EN 16661 on interoperability of Tyre Pressure Gauges is useful for:
- Tyre Pressure Gauge manufacturers
- Tyre manufacturers
- Vehicle service sector
- Design engineers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS EN 16661 - Interoperability of Tyre Pressure Gauges?
Since tires are rated for specific loads at a certain pressure, it is important to keep the pressure of the tire at the optimal amount. The general objective of BS EN 16661 is the capability of standardized interactivity between tyre pressure gauges with tyre information systems (TIS), which provide all relevant data for the tyre (re-)filling process for example placard information and/or the tyre pressure monitored via Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Increasing the potential of TIS/TPMS and Tyre Pressure Gauge, BS EN 16661 is part of the future European standards covering the interoperability of TPG with TIS, through standardized interfaces and data exchange formats, allowing advanced information management and exchange. The architecture is open and scalable to support the most complex (full interoperability) to the simplest (fully manual) applications. Furthermore, the architecture considers relevant ways of communication. BS EN 16661 allows secure interfacing for data exchanges between the Tyre Pressure Gauge and TIS. Using BS EN 16661 you can define requirements and processes for the interoperability of Tyre Pressure Gauge with TPMS/vehicle, through standardized interfaces and data exchange formats allowing advanced information, management, and control systems between Tyre Pressure Gauge and TPMS/vehicle.
