ISO/TS 16976‑3 discusses respiratory protective devices (RPD). ISO/TS 16976‑3 is an international standard that provides physiological responses and limitations of oxygen and carbon dioxide on RPD. 

ISO/TS 16976‑3 is the third part of a multi-series that identify oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration limit values and the length of time within which they would not be expected to impose physiological distress.  

ISO/TS 16976‑3 addresses both high-altitude exposures where low partial pressures are encountered and underwater diving, which involves conditions with high partial pressures. 

ISO/TS 16976‑3 specifies:

ISO/TS 16976‑3 is the second edition that cancels and replaces the first edition ISO/TS 16976‑3:2011. The main changes compared to the previous edition are: 

  • Explanation of the new limits for CO2 derived from a study 
  • Addition of a new Table 3 to give limits for CO2 when breathing against imposed breathing resistance
