What is ISO 8167 about?

ISO 8167 specifies the geometries and dimensions of projections for embossed projection welding. Tools to make the projections are also included in Annex B.

ISO 8167 covers projections used on hot-rolled, cold-rolled, uncoated, and coated steels, stainless steels, and nickel alloys for conventional welding quality up to 3 mm thickness, as single projections, in multiples or as a group of multiples. ISO 8167 provides projections to improve resistance welding.

Note: Any solid projections are not included in this document.

Who is ISO 8167 for?

ISO 8167 on resistance welding is applicable to:

  • Construction, automotive, mechanical Industries
  • Sheet metal manufacturers
  • Manufacturers of pressure vessels
  • Manufacturers of aircraft & aerospace
  • Shipbuilding industry
  • Welding equipment manufacturers

Why should you use ISO 8167?

Standardization in welding procedures is becoming more and more important due to the increasing quality and performance standards.

Following the guidelines in ISO 8167 improves the quality of embossed projection welding processes and welded joints.

ISO 8167 provides guidelines for manufacturing embossed projection welded joints that are effective and efficient adhering to internationally recognized standards. Compliance with the standards informs customers that the quality and performance of the products are the best in industry.
