What is BS EN 660-2 - Resilient floor coverings - Determination of wear resistance about?

BS EN 660-2 is a European standard that gives the Frick-Taber test to determine the wear resistance of floor coverings. BS EN 660-2 describes the Frick–Taber method for determining the wear resistance of the wear layer of polyvinyl chloride floor coverings under laboratory conditions.

BS EN 660-2 is applicable to floor coverings with smooth surfaces. BS EN 660-2 can be used to determine the wear resistance of surfaces against abrasion and particularly for ranking different wear layer types within one type of product.

BS EN 660-2 is not appropriate for comparing the wear resistance of different materials, e.g. rubber and polyvinyl chloride.

Who is BS EN 660-2 - Resilient floor coverings - Determination of wear resistance for?

BS EN 660-2 on the resilient floor coverings - determination of wear resistance is useful for:

  • Resilient floor coverings manufacturers
  • Quality control personnel
  • Floor coverings designers
  • Interior decorators

Why should you use BS EN 660-2 - Resilient floor coverings - Determination of wear resistance?

Wear resistance can be defined as the ability of a surface to resist being worn away by rubbing or friction. It is very important in the construction of floors. Determination of wear resistance by the Frick-Taber test is used to study the various characteristics of materials that including toughness, hardness, ductility, and strength of resilient floor coverings.

BS EN 660-2 specifies a method of assessment of wear resistance of the wear layer of polyvinyl chloride floor coverings under laboratory conditions that helps determine the ability of a floor covering to withstand impact.

BS EN 660-2 provides properties of a floor covering that you should comply with during designing and production to improve the working life of the friction materials during service.
