What is BS EN 139761- Transportation incubators interface requirement about?

BS EN 139761 is a European Standard that focuses on the rescue system from transportation of incubators with interface requirements. BS EN 139761 specifies the requirements for the interface between the ambulance and the incubator and the associated equipment, needed for care and treatment of infants, used in an emergency or planned transports to ensure interchangeability and interoperability and to provide uninterrupted care of infants.

Who is BS EN 139761 - Transportation incubators interface requirement for?

BS EN 139761 on the rescue system with transportation incubators and interface requirement is useful for:

  • Patient transport services
  • Ambulance equipment manufacturers
  • Doctors and healthcare workers

Why should you use BS EN 139761- Transportation incubators interface requirement

From experience, it is known that transport incubator systems have an increasing need for electrical power for the safe and adequate care of the infant. New medical devices for the care of infants with more complicated diseases are introduced. Transportations are also more often performed over longer distances. The need for interchangeability is occurring more often.

BS EN 139761 gives you the requirements for the interfaces required in the transport of a transport incubator system. The standard includes interfaces between the incubator and the ambulance as well as those between the various items of equipment used to form the transport incubator system. They are essential to ensure the interchangeability and a safe and effective function in different vehicles, allowing the uninterrupted care of infants.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 139761:2018 supersedes BS EN 139761:2011. BS EN 139761:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 139761:2011. These include:

  • Clarified ambiguous and unclear issues to improve interchangeability and interoperability of the transport incubator system when transported in hospitals and between hospitals using different ambulances and air crafts, by specifying the interface for mechanical fixation, the gas connector and electrical connector
