What is BS 7737-1 - Dielectric properties of insulating materials about?

BS 7737-1 is an international standard that applies to the procedures for the determination of relative permittivity and dielectric dissipation factor and of quantities related to them, such as the loss index, of dielectric materials in the microwave frequency region (i.e. frequencies above about 300 MHz up to optical frequencies).

Unlike the test methods employed at lower frequencies (see IEC Publication 250), the test methods dealt with in BS 7737-1 use test specimen and/or test set-up dimensions larger than or comparable to the wavelength of the electromagnetic field of the test frequency. The measured values are dependent on physical conditions such as frequency, temperature, moisture content, and in special cases field strength as well.

Who is BS 7737-1 - Dielectric properties of insulating materials for?

BS 7737-1 on Dielectric properties of insulating materials is useful for:

  • The electrical industry
  • Testing and inspection managers
  • The power industry
  • The oil and gas industry
  • The petrochemical industry

Why should you use BS 7737-1 - Dielectric properties of insulating materials

The dielectric properties of insulation include breakdown voltage or dielectric strength, dielectric parameters like permittivity, conductivity, loss angle, and power factor.

BS 7737-1 provides you with the factors influencing the dielectric properties of dielectric materials, the survey on measuring methods, and the testing procedure and report. Using BS 7737-1 guidelines for safety and protection, quality assurance, and efficiency at the workplace.
