What is BS EN 13145 - wood sleepers and bearers on tracks about?  

BS EN 13145 is a European Standard that discusses railway track applications. 

BS EN 13145 defines wood species, quality requirements, origin, manufacturing conditions, forms, dimensions, and tolerances as well as the durability and preservation of wood sleepers and bearers for use on railway tracks.  

Note 1: BS EN 13145 does not cover specific finishing processes that may be required by the customer.  

Note 2: BS EN 13145 does not apply to other track timbers.

Why should you use BS EN 13145 - wood sleepers and bearers on tracks?

BS EN 13145 provides necessary preservative treatments so that the sleepers and bearers are free from features that prevent a proper application of preservatives and thus impair the function of the preservative-treated sleepers and bearers in service.  

BS EN 13145 is useful to support running rails, check rails, and where appropriate conduct rails, crossings, and operating mechanisms in switches and crossings.
