What is BS EN 15955-1 - Running and working of demountable machines and associated equipment about?
BS EN 15955 is a European standard that discusses the demountable machines and associated equipment for railway applications. BS EN 15955-1 is the first part of the multi-part series that outlines the technical requirements to minimise the specific railway hazards of self-propelled demountable machines – henceforward referred to as machines – and associated equipment, which can arise during the commissioning, the operation, and the maintenance of these machines when carried out following the specification given by the manufacturer or his authorised representative.
Additional requirements under BS EN 15955 can apply for running on infrastructures with a narrow gauge or broad-gauge lines, lines of tramways, railways utilising other than the adhesion between the rail and rail wheels, and underground infrastructures.
BS EN 15955 also applies to machines and associated equipment that in the working configuration are partly supported on the ballast or the formation.
Note 1: These machines are not designed or intended to operate signalling and control systems and are only designed and intended to work and run under special operating conditions specifically designated by the infrastructure manager. Other machines are dealt with in other European Standards.
Note 2: BS EN 15955 does not apply to the following:
- Requirements for the quality of the work or performance of the machine
- Specific requirements established by the railway infrastructure operator for the use of machines will be the subject of negotiation between the manufacturer and the purchaser
- Separate machines temporarily mounted on demountable machines and associated equipment
Who is BS EN 15955-1 - Running and working of demountable machines and associated equipment for?
BS EN 15955-1 on technical requirements for running and working for demountable machines and associated equipment is useful for:
- Manufacturers of demountable machines and associated equipment
- Test centres
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use BS EN 15955-1 - Running and working of demountable machines and associated equipment?
A demountable machine is a self-propelled machine that can run and work on rail and which is not intended to operate signalling and control systems.
BS EN 15955-1 assists you with railway specific safety requirements and/or measures on gauge, running safety equipment, inter-machine couplings, rail wheel suspension, controls, electromagnetic compatibility, failure recovery, mobile elevating work platform, and exhaust for proper running and working of demountable machines and associated equipment.
BS EN 15955-1 also guides on machine categorisation, marking, the numbering of the machine, user information, and verification of the conformity to the requirements and/ or safety measures.
This assist in ensuring that the demountable machines and associated equipment are working and running efficiently.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 15955-1, you can improve the efficacy of demountable machines and associated equipment. In addition, minimise the specific railway hazards of trailers and associated equipment.
