BS EN 50124 is a European standard that discusses insulation Coordination for railway applications. BS EN 50124-1 provides the best industry guidance on the basic requirements for the clearances and creepage distances for all electrical and electronic equipment to minimize hazardous situations and ensure the safety of workers. 

BS EN 50124-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that deals with insulation coordination in railways. BS EN 50124-1 applies to equipment for use in signaling, rolling stock, and fixed installations.

  • Distances through solid or liquid insulation

  • The scope has been enlarged to include altitudes higher than 2 000 m above sea level 
  • Related requirements have been included, especially new subclause 5.4, table a.9, and table a.10.
