What is PD CLC/TS 50152-4 about?

PD CLC/TS 50152-4 is the fourth part of the PD CLC/TS 50152 series of documents that specifies requirements for prefabricated metal-enclosed traction switchgear for alternating current with traction voltages and frequencies as specified in EN 50163:2004 and used in indoor and outdoor installations. Enclosures may include fixed and removable components and may be filled with fluid (liquid or gas) to provide insulation.

For metal-enclosed traction switchgear containing gas-filled compartments, the design pressure is limited to a maximum of 300 kPa (relative pressure).

Components contained in metal-enclosed traction switchgear are to be designed and tested in accordance with their various relevant standards. PD CLC/TS 50152-4 supplements the standards for the individual components regarding their installation in traction switchgear assemblies.

NOTE: PD CLC/TS 50152-4 does not preclude that other equipment may be included in the same enclosure. In such a case, any possible influence of that equipment on the traction switchgear is to be taken into account.

Who is PD CLC/TS 50152-4 for?

PD CLC/TS 50152-4 on requirements for AC switchgear is useful for:

  • Railway engineers
  • Manufacturers of AC switchgear

Why should you use PD CLC/TS 50152-4?

Switchgear is used both to de-energize equipment to allow work to be done and to clear faults downstream. PD CLC/TS 50152-4 gives the ratings of traction switchgear and the design and construction of insulators used in AC switchgear.

PD CLC/TS 50152-4 provides general test types to verify insulation level of the equipment, measurement of the resistance of circuits, measurement of the resistance of circuits, the capability of the main and earthing circuits, making and breaking capacity of the included switching devices, protection of the equipment against mechanical impact.

PD CLC/TS 50152-4 provides guidance on the selection of switchgear and controlgear and also transport, storage, installation, operating instructions, and maintenance.

Furthermore, these tests method let you manufacture and verify AC switchgear which helps in the protection of persons against dangerous electrical effects and the influence of the product on the environment.
