What is BS EN 60077-2 – General rules for electrotechnical components in rolling stock about?
BS EN 60077 is a European standard that discusses railway applications. BS EN 60077-2 provides general rules for electrotechnical components for rolling stock in railway applications to ensure the proper functioning of the equipment.
BS EN 60077-2 outlines general rules for all electrotechnical components installed in power circuits, auxiliary circuits, control and indicating circuits, etc., on railway rolling stock.
BS EN 60077-2 states:
- The characteristics of the components
- The service conditions with which components must comply
- The tests intended to confirm compliance of the components with these characteristics under these service conditions, and the methods to be adopted for these tests
- The information to be marked on, or given with, the apparatus
Note 1: BS EN 60077-2 is does not apply to electronic equipment, the presence of electronic components does not give grounds to exclude such electrotechnical components from the scope of this document.
Note 2: Some of these rules, after an agreement between the user and the manufacturer, are used for electrotechnical components installed on vehicles other than railway rolling stock, such as mine locomotives, trolleybuses, etc.
Note 3: In the event of there being a difference in requirements between this document and a railway rolling stock relevant product standard, then the product standard requirements take precedence.
Who is BS EN 60077-2 – General rules for electrotechnical components in rolling stock for?
BS EN 60077-2 on the general rules for electrotechnical components in rolling stock is useful for:
- Manufacturers of electrotechnical components
- Test centers
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use BS EN 60077-2 – General rules for electrotechnical components in rolling stock?
Electrotechnical components are mainly switchgear and control gear, including also relays, valves, resistors, fuses, etc., irrespective of the nature of their control. The incorporation of electronic components or electronic subassemblies into electrotechnical components is now common practice.
BS EN 60077-2 guideline assists you with characteristics, operational frequencies, electric control circuits, manual control, product information, normal service conditions, constructional requirements, performance requirements, tests, and routine tests for electrotechnical components for electrical equipment for rolling stock.
This assists you to standardize the performance of electrotechnical components for electrical equipment for rolling stock and ensuring the satisfactory operation of these components for rolling stocks.
With compliance and obedience of BS EN 60077-2, you can obtain the uniformity of requirements and tests for the corresponding range of electrotechnical components.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 60077-2:2017 supersedes IEC 60077-2:1999, which is withdrawn BS EN 60077-2:2017 has made some technical changes compared to IEC 60077-2:1999. These includes:
- Short circuit breaking capacity is specified
- Rated short-time withstand current is specified
- Critical currents range is specified
- Climatic conditions are specified
