What is ISO 800008 about?

ISO 80000-8 is the eighth part of a series of documents on quantities and units. ISO 800008 gives names, symbols, definitions and units for quantities of acoustics.

ISO 800008 also includes conversion factors that are given wherever deemed appropriate.

Who is ISO 800008 for?

ISO 800008 on quantities and units - acoustics is useful for:

  • Sound professionals
  • Acoustical engineers

Why should you use ISO 800008

Units are the tools to measure and compare different things. Comparison becomes easier when all the units for the measurement are identical.  Different units can be classified depending on their use. Acoustics is a branch of physics that deals with the study of mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids including topics such as vibration, sound, ultrasound and infrasound.

ISO 800008 includes a table that covers the item number, name, symbol, definition, units and remarks for space and time. This topic can get very technical and difficult to understand hence there is a need to make the quantities and units for acoustics standardised. This can save a lot of time and energy for your organization by making it easier to understand this subject, which will in turn increase productivity and efficiency for your organization.
