What is PD IEC TS 62686‑2 - General requirements for passive components about?
PD IEC TS 62686 is a series of international standards for process management for avionics that specifies the general requirements for passive components used in avionics helps in ensuring health and safety requirements while manufacturing the passive components.
PD IEC TS 62686‑2 is the second part of the PD IEC TS 62686 series of documents that defines the minimum requirements for general purpose "off-the-shelf" COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) passive components for aerospace, defence and high performance (ADHP) applications.
PD IEC TS 62686‑2 applies to all passive components that can be operated in ADHP applications within the manufacturers’ publicly available datasheet limits in conjunction with IEC TS 62239-1.
PD IEC TS 62686‑2 can be used by other high performance and high-reliability industries, at their discretion.
ADHP application requirements are not necessarily fulfilled by PD IEC TS 62686‑2 alone. ADHP original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) could consider redesigning their products or conducting further testing to verify suitability in ADHP applications using their procedures for satisfying their electronic component management plan (ECMP) (see IEC TS 62239-1).
Note: With the addition of alternative methods, it is possible for manufacturers to be audited by IECQ under the new IECQ automotive scheme or IECQ approved component scheme.
Who is PD IEC TS 62686‑2 - General requirements for passive components for?
PD IEC TS 62686‑2 on Process management for avionics is useful for:
- Aerospace engineers
- Defence industries
- Manufacturers of automotive parts
- Manufacturers of electronic devices
- Manufacturers of passive components
Why should you use PD IEC TS 62686‑2 - General requirements for passive components?
A passive element is an electrical component that does not generate power, but instead dissipates, stores, or releases it.
PD IEC TS 62686‑2 helps in determining the quality management system of passive components and providing the minimum technical requirements.
The equivalent method specified in PD IEC TS 62686‑2 is useful in approving the components, manufacturing automotive components and helps in specifying the passive components.
ESD protection specified in PD IEC TS 62686‑2 helps in protecting the passive components through OCM’s manufacturing operation helps in avoiding static damages.
The electrical test ensures the sustainability of the passive components used in avionics and the mechanical characteristics specify package dimensions of passive components which are useful in meeting the OCM’s datasheet for packing these components.
With PD IEC TS 62686‑2 you can achieve high-quality passive components for use in avionics that helps in the protection of users and improvement of the components that helps in influencing the flow of power but do not require an external power source to function.
What’s changed since the last update?
PD IEC TS 62686‑2:2019 supersedes PD IEC/PAS 62686‑2:2016. PD IEC TS 62686‑2:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to PD IEC/PAS 62686‑2:2016. These include:
- The required support cannot be obtained for the publication of an International Standard, despite repeated efforts, or
- The subject is still under technical development or where, for any other reason, there is the future but no immediate possibility of an agreement on an International Standard
