What is BS EN IEC 62668-1 - Counterfeit prevention about?

BS EN IEC 62668 is a series of the international standard on process management for avionics that specifies the intellectual property (IP) which results in preventing counterfeit activities.

BS EN IEC 62668-1 is the first part of process management for avionics in multi-series that ensures avoiding the fraudulent components in avionics.

BS EN IEC 626681 defines requirements for avoiding the use of counterfeit, recycled and fraudulent components used in the aerospace, defence and high performance (ADHP) industries. It also defines requirements for ADHP industries to maintain their intellectual property (IP) for all of their products and services. The risks associated with purchasing components outside of franchised distributor networks are considered in IEC 62668-2.

Although developed for the avionics industry, BS EN IEC 626681 can be applied by other high performance and high-reliability industries at their discretion.

Note: IEC 62668 (all parts) does not address the restriction on the re-use of a component in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations and only addresses MRO activities when they are under the OEM’s responsibility.

Who is BS EN IEC 62668-1 - Counterfeit prevention for?

BS EN IEC 626681 on process management for avionics is useful for:

  • Aerospace engineers
  • Defence industries
  • Metal industries
  • Chemical industries
  • Manufacturers of fuel pumps
  • Distributors of fuel and oil

Why should you use BS EN IEC 62668-1 - Counterfeit prevention?

Counterfeit attempts in convincing the customers that they are buying a legitimate item or convince the consumers that they could deceive others with the imitation. This technique used by the sellers can cause harm or monetary loss to the consumers.

BS EN IEC 62668-1 is useful in defining the intellectual property rights (IP) which helps in adopting the anti-counterfeit activities. These anti-counterfeit activities are useful in maintaining intellectual property rights (IP). By inspecting the suspected components, you will be able to determine the fraudulent components.

BS EN IEC 62668-1 specifies the counterfeit problems, counterfeit activities and defines the intellectual property rights that help in recognizing the fraudulent components used in avionics. The main objective of BS EN IEC 62668-1 is to help in preventing fraud by using duplicate or recycled components in electronics or in avionics.

As a result, BS EN IEC 62668-1 helps all stakeholders from industry and government to effectively carb entry of counterfeit parts into the aerospace supply chain and minimize their impact.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 626681:2019 supersedes PD IEC/TS 626681:2016. BS EN IEC 626681:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to PD IEC/TS 626681:2016. These include:

  • Added a reference to AS/EN/JISQ 9100 and AS/EN/JISQ 9110 which contain anticounterfeit requirements that may be used to satisfy the requirements of 4.2
  • Added reference to USA DFAR rule 252.246.7008 and to UK Defence Standard 05-135
  • Added reference to more GAO, OECD and ICC reports in 4.5.1
  • Added new Annex E with figures describing how anti-counterfeit documents can be used in supply chains
  • Added a reference to the new IECQ OD 3702 traceability audit
  • Added new definition for re-manufactured components with a warning that these are not recommended.
