What is BS EN 14276-1 about?
BS EN 14276-1 is the first part of multiple series that discusses pressure equipment for refrigerating systems and heat pumps. BS EN 142761 specifies the requirements for material, design, manufacturing, testing and documentation for stationary pressure vessels intended for use in refrigerating systems and heat pumps.
BS EN 14276-1 applies to vessels, including welded or brazed attachments up to and including the nozzle flanges, screwed, welded or brazed connectors, or to the edge to be welded or brazed at the first circumferential joint connecting piping or other elements. BS EN 142761 applies to both the mechanical loading conditions and thermal conditions associated with refrigerating systems.
EN 14276-1 applies to pressure vessels where the main pressure bearing parts are manufactured from metallic ductile materials
Note 1: BS EN 14276-1 document does not apply to vessels of the following types:
- Vessels of riveted construction
- Multi-layered, autofrettage or prestressed vessels
- Vessels directly heated by a flame
- “Roll bond” heat exchangers
Who is BS EN 14276-1 for?
BS EN 14276-1 on pressure equipment for refrigerating systems and heat pumps is useful for:
- Manufacturers of accessories for pressure equipment
- Refrigerator manufacturers
- Heat pump manufacturers
- Research and development facilities
- Design engineers
Why should you use BS EN 14276-1?
BS EN 14276-1 implementation on pressure equipment for refrigerating systems and heat pumps recognizes the unique nature of vessels for refrigerating systems or heat pumps. BS EN 14276-1 intended to address the specific needs of the refrigeration and heat pump industry.
Vessels designed as per BS EN 14276-1 specifications can have a maximum allowable temperature not exceeding 200 °C and a maximum design pressure not exceeding 160 bar. Following the guidelines given in BS EN 14276-1, you will be able to manufacture pressure equipment for refrigerating systems and heat pumps as per specifications.
