Overview:
What is BS EN IEC 60076-11-Requirements for dry-type transformers about?
BS EN IEC 60076-11 is the eleventh part of a multi-series standard that covers requirements for dry-type transformers enhancing the capacity to support overloads and resistance to short circuit currents.
BS EN IEC 60076-11 applies to dry-type power transformers (including autotransformers) having values of highest voltage for equipment up to and including 72.5 kV and at least one winding operating at greater than 1.1 kV.
Note 1: BS EN IEC 60076-11 does not apply to -
- Gas-filled dry-type transformers where the gas is not air
- Single-phase transformers rated at less than 5 kVA
- Polyphase transformers rated at less than 15 kVA
- Instrument transformers, starting transformers, testing transformers
- Traction transformers mounted on rolling stock, flameproof and mining transformers
- Welding transformers, voltage regulating transformers
- Small power transformers in which safety is a special consideration
Note 2: Where IEC standards do not exist for the transformers mentioned above or for other special transformers, BS EN IEC 60076-11 may be applied as a whole or in parts.
Who is BS EN IEC 60076-11-Requirements for dry-type transformers for?
BS EN IEC 60076-11 on the requirements for dry-type transformers applies to:
- Manufacturers of dry-type transformers
- Dealers and importers of dry-type transformers
- Testing houses and labs for dry-type transformers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60076-11-Requirements for dry-type transformers?
Traditional liquid-type transformers depend on environmentally taxing materials like oil. A dry-type transformer does not use any insulating liquid and does not have its windings or core submerged in it. A dry transformer has no moving parts, and it is a stationary device using natural air as a cooling medium.
BS EN IEC 60076-11 provides you guidance on service conditions, rating requirements, trappings, connections, ability to withstand short circuit, rating plate, temperature-rise limits, insulation levels, climatic, environmental and fire behavior classes that facilitate the cost-effective setup of dry-type transformers and long-lasting due to low thermal and dielectric heating.
BS EN IEC 60076-11 provides you guidance on routine tests, including routine tests, type tests, and special tests that ensure stable operations and safety of dry-type power transformers.
Adoption of BS EN IEC 60076-11 allows users to develop and assess pollution-free and sustainable dry-type transformers and ensure safety, performance and longevity in transformer applications.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60076-11:2018 supersedes BS EN 60076-11:2004, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS EN IEC 60076-11:2018 include -
- Extension of the scope up to 72.5kV
- Enclosure management in regard to the performance
- Management of the dielectric and thermal features with altitude
- New climatic classes for a better adaptation of customers’ need
- Establishment of the relationship between location and environmental classes
