BS EN 13724 is a European standard that specifies the requirements and the test methods of the apertures for the delivery of letter-post items when fitted in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. 

BS EN 13724 takes into account security, impregnability, safety and performance for the recipient, and ergonomics and efficiency for the delivery personnel. BS EN 13724 allows the daily delivery in good condition of a great majority of letter-post items.

BS EN 13724:2013 supersedes EN 13724:2002, which is withdrawn. BS EN 13724:2013includes some technical changes with respect to EN 13724:2002. These include: 

  • Revision of the definition of the term "grade" 
  • Raising the number of aperture sizes from 2 to 3 
  • Extension of security grades by security grade 0 
  • Introduction of 3 new gauge envelopes 
  • Adaptation of the paragraph entitled "installation height of aperture"
