BS EN 13676 specifies a procedure for the detection and estimation of pinholes in polymeric layers on paper and board. BS EN 13676 is applicable to all kinds of polymeric coated paper and board.

The principle says that the sample is brought into one-side contact with a colouring solution for a specified time. The surplus solution is removed, and any coloured spots (pinholes) are counted. The result is expressed as the number of pinholes per square decimetre of paper or board.
