What is PD ISO/TR 22165 - Pneumatic fluid power about?

PD ISO/TR 22165 discusses pneumatic fluid power. Pneumatic fluid power technologies use a fluid (liquid or gas) to transmit power from one location to another. With hydraulics, the fluid is a liquid (usually oil), whereas pneumatics uses gas (usually compressed air). PD ISO/TR 22165 gives advice on how to conceive pneumatic systems, which under consideration of functionality and economic efficiency, can be operated with increased energy efficiency.

Typical applications for pneumatics in stationary machines are:

  • Clamping, pressing, moving, separating, positioning, and orienting of workpieces

PD ISO/TR 22165 discusses that the more precise the specifications on forces, cycle times, precision, lifetime etc. are, the more economically (also from an energetic point of view) machines can be designed, and drive concepts using, for example, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrics, or combinations of these technologies, can be developed.
