What is ISO 2426-1 about?
ISO 2426-1 establishes general rules for the classification of plywood by its surface appearance.
ISO 2426-1 concerns plywood made of hardwood including tropical and temperate hardwood, softwood and plywood derived from other lignocellulosic materials.
NOTE: ISO 2426-1 does not apply to overlaid plywood.

Why should you use ISO 2426-1?
Plywood is made up of three or more thin layers of wood bonded together with adhesives.
ISO 2426-1 determines the appearance class, based on the appearance of the panel surfaces.
Classification of plywood by surface appearance is made according to the number and the extent of certain natural characteristics of wood and the defects that come from the manufacturing process. ISO 2426-1 assists the user with the categories and characteristics of wood. ISO 2426-1 also gives description about the number or extent which is expressed par square metre of panel, with the exception of checks, splits and open joints which are related to one metre of panel width.
Overall, ISO 2426-1 is helpful as it provides guidance on the characteristics and defects which are limited in number, size, or extent which are either enumerated or evaluated over the total surface of the panel.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 2426-1:2020 replaces the first edition (ISO 2426-1:2000), which has been technically revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
