BS EN 748 discusses playing field equipment with a focus on football goals and its functional and safety requirements, test methods. BS EN 748 specifies the functional requirements for 4 types and 2 sizes and the safety requirements for football goals. 

BS EN 748 is applicable to football goals for training and competition in outdoor sports facilities and indoor arenas. 

Note: The following football goals are excluded from BS EN 748

  • EN 16579: goals with a size of 5,00 m × 2,00 m and 7,32 m × 2,44 m and with a total weight of ≥ 10 kg and ≤ 42 kg (total weight includes net, net fixing, and any permanently attached anchoring or stabilizing system) 
  • EN 16664: (lightweight goals)

Why should you use BS EN 748 - Football goals 

The goal frame may be made of steel, light metal, or plastics, provided the requirements of BS EN 748 are fulfilled. The ground frame, the ground sockets, the brackets, and the poles for the net headline shall be made of light metal and/or steel protected against corrosion (e.g., hot galvanized, powder-coated, or painted). 

BS EN 748 discusses requirements for sizes 7,32 m × 2,44 m and 5,00 m × 2,00 m, dimensions, design, goal frame, nets, ground sockets, safety requirements, goal frame, strength, stability, net fixings, frame entrapment, determination of strength, determination of stability, and testing of types 1 to 3. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 748:2013+A1:2018 supersedes EN 748:2004, which is withdrawn.BS EN 748:2013+A1:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 748:2004 

These include: 

  • Normative references have been updated 
  • Figure 3 and Figure 4 have been updated 
  • Scope is harmonized with the new standard EN 16579:2018
