What is BS EN 13067 about?

BS EN 13067 specifies the method of testing the knowledge and skill of a welder who is required to carry out welds on thermoplastics in new constructions and repair work.

BS EN 13067 is applicable to the following welding processes:

  • Hot gas welding: round nozzle, speed, wedge
  • Extrusion welding
  • Heated tool welding: butt, saddle, socket, wedge
  • Electrofusion welding: socket, saddle
  • Solvent welding: socket.

BS EN 13067 is applicable to the welding of the following products:

  • Sheet
  • Pipe (unreinforced, solid wall only)
  • Fittings (unreinforced only)
  • Lining membrane

Note: Gas and water utility network industries with alternative qualification programmes are excluded from EN 13067

Who is BS EN 13067 for?

BS EN 13067 on plastics welding personnel is applicable to:

  • Aerospace
  • Defence
  • Marine
  • Automotive
  • Electronics
  • Welders
  • Welding Contractors
  • Welding examiners and examining authorities

Why should you use BS EN 13067?

Skill examination of a welder is essential for the assurance of the quality of the welding work. BS EN 13067 provides the standard requirements to measure the knowledge and skill using a test method for welders to be employed in plastic welding processes.

The application of BS EN 13067 assures that the examination of skill and knowledge of welders is carried out according to a uniform and standardized test procedure. This improves the quality and efficiency of welding personnel to be employed in manufacturing operations.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 13067:2020 supersedes BS EN 13067:2012, which is withdrawn. BS EN 13067:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 13067:2012. These include:

  • In Clause 1 Scope for the different group of materials has been updated
