What is BS EN 514 – Determination of the strength of welded corners and T-joints about?

BS EN 514 is an international standard used for plastics that specifies the test methods and test procedures which helps in determining the strength of welded corners and T-joints that are made from unplasticized Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) based profiles.

BS EN 514 specifies a tensile bending method and a compression bending method for determining the failure stress of welded corners and welded T-joints made from unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) profiles.

BS EN 514 is applicable to PVC-based profiles used for the fabrication of windows and doors.

Who is BS EN 514 – Determination of the strength of welded corners and T-joints for?

BS EN 514 on Plastics is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of automobile
  • Manufacturers of electronic devices
  • Construction of the building
  • Manufacturers of pipes and tubes
  • Health care centres
  • Manufacturers of plastic products
  • Manufacturers of pipes and tubes

Why should you use BS EN 514 – Determination of the strength of welded corners and T-joints

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a synthetic resin made of polymerization of vinyl chloride. PVC is a commonly used polymer that helps in finding applications in a variety of products due to its excellent properties. These welded corners and T-joints are useful in joining the tubes or pipes.

BS EN 514 helps in producing the welded corners and T joints by using unplasticized Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) based profiles. These welded corners and T-joints are subjected to a tensile bending or compression bending test at a specified temperature and test speed.

BS EN 514 helps in identifying the failures loads present in welded corners and T-joints. The failures stress present in welded corners and T-joints is calculated that resulting in avoiding the failures. This helps in manufacturing good quality Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) based profiles.

BS EN 514 specifies the test methods and procedures that are useful in determining the strength of welded corners and T-joints of Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) based profiles.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 514:2018 supersedes BS EN 514:2000. BS EN 514:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 514:2000. This includes changes in figure 1,2,3,4, and in figure A.1.
