What is ISO 24022-2 about?
ISO 24022-2 is the second part of the multi-series ISO 24022 on PS moulding and extrusion materials. ISO 24022-2 specifies the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of polystyrene (PS) moulding and extrusion materials.
PS is a dynamic material used for manufacturing a wide variety of products such as disposable cutlery, license plate frames, smoke detector housings, and plastic model assembly kits, among others.
ISO 24022-2 gives requirements for handling test material and for conditioning both the test material before moulding and the specimens before testing.
Who is ISO 24022-2 for?
ISO 24022-2 on the PS moulding and extrusion materials is useful for:
- Manufacturers of PS products such as appliances, electronics, auto parts, toys etc.
- Research and testing personnel
- Design engineers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 24022-2?
PS plastic is a naturally transparent thermoplastic that is available as both a solid plastic as well in the form of a rigid foam material. ISO 24022-2 specifies the procedures and conditions for the preparation of test specimens and procedures for measuring the properties of the materials from which these specimens are made. ISO 24022-2 lists the properties and test methods that are suitable and necessary to characterize PS moulding and extrusion materials.
Using ISO 24022-2, you will be able to determine the properties of your specimens; and take manufacturing decisions accordingly.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 24022-2:2020 supersedes ISO 1622-2:1995. BS EN ISO 24022-2:2020 has been editorially revised. The changes include:
- The normative references have been updated to the latest version
- Terms and definitions have been added
- ‘General properties and test conditions,’ and ‘additional properties and test conditions of particular utility to PS moulding and extrusion materials’ have been updated according to the revised ISO 10350-1
