What is ISO 24023-2 about?
ISO 24023-2 is the second part of the multi-series ISO 24023 about PVC plastics. PVC is a dynamic synthetic material that finds uses in a wide variety of applications such as window frames, drainage pipes, medical devices, blood storage bags, cable and wire insulation, and many more.
ISO 24023-2 specifies the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of PVC-P moulding and extrusion materials. ISO 24023-2 gives the requirements for handling test materials and for conditioning both the test material before moulding and the specimens before testing.

Why should you use ISO 24023-2?
Polyvinyl, also known as poly (vinyl chloride) or PVC, is a widely produced synthetic plastic. It is a very versatile and cost-efficient thermoplastic of good dimensional stability and impact strength (when plasticized), and excellent weathering properties.
ISO 24023-2 gives procedures and conditions for the preparation of test specimens and procedures for measuring the properties of the materials from which these specimens are made. ISO 24023-2 lists properties and test methods that are suitable and necessary to characterize PVC-P moulding and extrusion materials.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 24023-2:2020 supersedes ISO 2898-2:2008. BS EN ISO 24023-2:2020 has been editorially revised. The changes include:
- ISO 3167 has been replaced by ISO 20753
- IEC 60093 has been replaced by the new editions of IEC 62631-3-1and IEC 62631-3-2.
