What is ISO 17885 about?
ISO 17885 specifies the requirements and test methods for mechanical fittings intended to join plastic pressure piping systems including transition fittings to metal pipes for the following:
- Supply of gaseous fuels (GAS)
- Supply of water for human consumption (W), including raw water prior to treatment and for the supply of water for general purposes, as well as underground drainage and sewerage under pressure (P)
- Supply of water for irrigation (I)
- Industrial applications (IS)
ISO 17885 is applicable only to mechanical fittings with operating temperature and pressure limits as indicated in the standards of the relevant system.
Note: Mechanical fittings for hot and cold-water systems inside buildings, as well as for district heating applications, are not covered by ISO 17885.
Who is ISO 17885 for?
ISO 17885 on mechanical fittings for pressure piping system is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of mechanical fittings
- Quality testing personnel
- Designers, installers, specifiers of pressure piping systems
Why should you use ISO 17885?
Mechanical fittings can be made entirely from plastic materials, from metals, or a combination of plastic materials and metals.
ISO 17885 specifies the criteria for mechanical fittings used to join plastic piping systems for the provision of gaseous fuels, water for human use and other purposes, and industrial applications.
ISO 17885 provides a standardized set of test procedures for evaluating the performance of fittings based on their intended usage. This will assist you in selecting the proper fitting, considering their specific requirements as well as any relevant national guidance or legislation, installation methods, or codes.
ISO 17885 lays out guidelines for the appearance, colour and weathering protection of the fittings by following these guidelines no component of your fitting will show any any signs of damage, scratches, pitting, bubbles, blisters, inclusions or cracks.
According to the packaging guidelines under ISO 17885, you can make sure that the fitting and the accompanying components packaged, in bulk or individually, will remain free from degradation and contamination.
As a buyer of ISO 17885, you will benefit from its durability, minimal maintenance costs, and assurance that the water supply for human consumption is toxin-free and safe to use. By allowing you to make high-quality and durable mechanical fittings, ISO 17885 will enable you to build pressure pipe systems with high levels of operational efficiency and end-user safety.
