What is PD CEN/TS 12201-7 - Assessment of conformity of PE plastics piping systems about?

PD CEN/TS 12201 provides general information on the concept of testing and the organization of tests used for the purpose of the assessment of conformity of PE plastics piping systems.

The main aim of the PD CEN/TS 12201 series is to provide manufacturers and designers with best industry practices to ensure their products conform with relevant performance requirements.

PD CEN/TS 12201-7 is the seventh part of the PD CEN/TS 12201 series that gives guidance for the assessment of conformity of compounds, products, joints and assemblies in accordance with the applicable part(s) of EN 12201 intended to be included in the manufacturer’s quality plan as part of the quality management system and for the establishment of certification procedures.

In conjunction with Parts 1 to 5 of EN 12201, PD CEN/TS 12201-7 is applicable to polyethylene (PE) plastics piping systems for water supply, and for drainage and sewerage under pressure.

PD CEN/TS 12201-7 is applicable to PE pipes, fittings, and valves, their joints and to joints with components of other materials intended to be used under the following conditions:

  • Allowable operating pressure, PFA, up to 25 bar1)
  • An operating temperature of 20 °C as a reference temperature
  • Buried in the ground
  • Sea outfalls
  • Laid in water
  • Above ground, including pipes suspended below bridges

Who is PD CEN/TS 12201-7 - Assessment of conformity of PE plastics piping systems for?

PD CEN/TS 12201-7 on assessment of conformity of PE plastics piping systems is useful for:

  • Certification bodies
  • Inspection bodies
  • Quality management system personnel
  • Regulatory bodies
  • Product technical committees
  • Plastic pipe industries

Why should you use PD CEN/TS 12201-7 - Assessment of conformity of PE plastics piping systems

Conformity assessment guides you on the impartiality, confidentiality, complaints and appeals, information disclosure, and the use of management systems, as well as a strong focus on requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems.

In this regard, PD CEN/TS 12201-7 navigates you through the testing and inspection of PE plastics pipes, their sizes and fittings.

PD CEN/TS 12201-7 specifies the characteristics of compounds, pipes and fittings that are required whenever there is a change in design, in compound or production method using:

  • Type testing
  • Batch release tests
  • Process verification tests
  • Audit tests
  • Indirect tests

The PD CEN/TS 12201-7 document walks you through the documentation and maintenance process as well.
