What is BS EN 1329-1 about?

BS EN 1329-1 discusses drainage pipes made out of Unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U). BS EN 1329-1 specifies the requirements for solid wall PVC-U pipes with smooth internal and external surfaces. These pipes are extruded from the same formulation throughout the wall, fittings, and the system.

These PVC-U piping systems are intended for soil and waste discharge applications (low and high temperature): inside buildings (application area code “B”), for both inside buildings and buried in ground within the building structure (application area code “BD”).

Note: BS EN 1329-1 is also applicable to PVC-U pipes, fittings and the system intended for the ventilating part of the pipework in association with discharge applications and rainwater pipework within the building structure.

Who is BS EN 1329-1 for?

BS EN 1329-1 on PVC-U piping systems for soil and waste discharge is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and distributors of PVC-U piping systems
  • Builders / Engineers / Architects / Property Developers
  •  Product development teams
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN 1329-1?

PVC-U is the preferred material for piping systems due to its sturdiness, lightness, and cost effectiveness. BS EN 1329-1 guidelines include specifications for laying these PVC-U piping systems in your structures for soil and waste discharge.

BS EN 1329-1 covers a range of nominal sizes, a range of pipes and fittings series, and gives recommendations concerning colors. BS EN 1329-1 also specifies the test parameters and test methods for these PVC-U pipe systems.

BS EN 1329-1 guides you through the marking system based on intended use:

  • The intended use is reflected in the marking of products by “B” or “BD”
  • Application "B" covers uses above ground inside the building, or outside buildings fixed onto the wall.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 1329-1:2020 has re-dated normative references with respect to EN 1329-1:2014+A1:2018.
