What is PD CEN/TS 13598‑3 about?
PD CEN/TS 13598‑3 is the third part in the multi-series of documents that is applicable to plastics piping systems for non-pressure underground drainage and sewerage.
PD CEN/TS 13598‑3 gives guidance for requirements for the assessment of conformity of materials (compounds/formulations), products, joints, and assemblies in accordance with the applicable part(s) of EN 13598-1 and EN 13598-2 intended to be included in the manufacturer’s quality plan as part of the quality management system and for the establishment of certification procedures.
Note 1: The quality management system is expected to conform to or be no less stringent than the relevant requirements of EN ISO 9001
Note 2: If certification is involved, the certification body is expected to be compliant with EN ISO/IEC 17065.
Note 3: A basic test matrix provides an overview of the testing scheme in Annex A.
Note 4: PD CEN/TS 13598-3 is applicable to ancillary fittings including shallow chambers and manholes and inspection chambers.
Who is PD CEN/TS 13598‑3 for?
PD CEN/TS 13598‑3 on non-pressure underground drainage and sewerage is applicable to:
- PE plastic pipe manufacturers
- PE pipe specifiers and installers
- Civil engineers
- Product design engineers
- Contractors
- Local authorities
Why should you use PD CEN/TS 13598‑3?
Plastic pipe systems made from PE have a lower risk of cracking and leakage compared to alternative materials as they cope well with external stresses. A polyethene pipe is sturdy but flexes a little to protect it from bumps under the counter flexible, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant piping product. These benefits make it an ideal piping material for a broad variety of applications such as potable water service or distribution lines, lawn sprinklers, sewers, waste disposal, and drainage lines. PE materials are generally resistant to most ordinary chemicals.
PD CEN/TS 13598-3 provides you with the requirements for analyzing the conformance of materials (compounds/formulations), products, and joints, which can help in the manufacturer's quality plan as part of the quality management system, as well as the implementation of certification procedures.
By selecting the right materials, PD CEN/TS 13598-3 helps ensure that product failure is avoided and overall structural integrity of the piping system is maintained. This can ultimately prevent any potential hygiene and health issue.
What’s changed since the last update?
PD CEN/TS 13598‑3:2021 supersedes PD CEN/TS 13598‑3:2012, which is withdrawn. Compared with CEN/TS 13598-3:2012, the following changes have been made:
- This document has been updated to comply with the latest CEN/TC 155 internal guide – Plastics piping systems – Template for documents for the assessment of conformity
- Type testing clauses have been updated to clarify what constitutes a change of material. Examples of a change of design, production processing method, an extension of product range and system are also given
