What is BS EN 17151 – Plastic piping systems about?

BS EN 17151 is a European standard that discusses the plastic piping systems for non-pressure underground conveyance and storage of non-potable water.

BS EN 17151 specifies a test method for determining the long-term compression strength for a specified period on boxes made of thermoplastic materials for non-pressure underground conveyance and storage of non-potable water.

BS EN 17151 is applicable for boxes that maintain their linear behaviour over the specified period.

Who is BS EN 17151 – Plastic piping systems for?

BS EN 17151 on plastics piping systems is applicable to:

  • Manufacturing of plastics pipes
  • Suppliers and dealers for plastic pipes
  • Civil engineers
  • Contractors

Why should you use BS EN 17151 – Plastic piping systems?

Plastic pipe is used for the conveyance of drinking water, wastewater, chemicals, heating fluid and cooling fluids, foodstuffs, ultra-pure liquids, slurries, gases, compressed air, irrigation, plastic pressure pipe systems, and vacuum system applications.

BS EN 17151 intends to reflect the current state of knowledge of determining and predicting the long-term lifetime of products mentioned in the scope while maintaining reasonable testing times for producers and developers of these systems. It also covers stormwater management systems.

BS EN 17151 describes the test method where the creep rupture tests are performed at different load levels and the time until rupture is measured. The load levels are selected to distribute the ruptures evenly over log-time. The creep rupture tests are carried out by testing a series of samples placed between two stiff plates with different constant compression loads applied.

With obedience and compliance to BS EN 17150, you can achieve precision in terms of product functionality. In this manner, you can deliver products that are reliable and durable and consistently meet and exceed the quality requirements.
