What is ISO 3167 Multipurpose test specimens of plastics about?

ISO 3167 is an international standard that covers multipurpose test specimens of plastics to ensure flexibility, uniformity and accuracy in testing applications.

ISO 3167 specifies requirements relating to multipurpose test specimens for plastic moulding materials intended for processing by injection or direct compression moulding.

Specimens of types A and B are tensile test specimens from which, with simple machining, specimens for a variety of other tests can be taken. Because they have such wide utility, these tensile specimens are referred to in ISO 3167 as multipurpose test specimens.

Note: The use of multipurpose test specimens should be agreed upon as there may be differences between the properties of the multipurpose test specimens and relevant test methods.

Who is ISO 3167 - Multipurpose test specimens of plastics for?

ISO 3167 on multipurpose test specimens of plastics  form is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of plastic products
  • Product designers and specifiers
  • Quality control and testing personnel
  • Inspection and maintenance personnel
  • Regulatory authorities

Why should you use ISO 3167 - Multipurpose test specimens of plastics?

The principal advantage of a multipurpose test specimen is that it allows all the test methods mentioned in ISO 3167 to be carried out on the basis of comparable mouldings. Consequently, the properties measured are coherent as all are measured with specimens in the same state.

ISO 3167 provides you guidance to develop one mould that can serve as a convenient source of specimen for quality-control purposes.

ISO 3167 provides you guidance on the preparation of test specimen, including general requirements, injection moulding and compression moulding of multipurpose test specimens and machining of multipurpose test specimens, enabling you to prepare multipurpose test specimens for plastic moulding materials.

By adopting BS EN 16472, you can develop multipurpose test specimens for plastic moulding materials, enabling cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and effective testing of physical and chemical aspects.
