What is ISO 19066‑2 about?
ISO 19066‑2 is the second part of a multi-series of international standards on plastics - Methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene (MABS) moulding and extrusion materials that covers the preparation of test specimens and determination of properties.
ISO 19066‑2 specifies the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (MABS) moulding and extrusion materials.
ISO 19066‑2 gives the requirements for handling the test material and for conditioning both the test material before moulding and the specimens before testing.
ISO 19066‑2 gives procedures and conditions for the preparation of test specimens and procedures for measuring properties of the materials from which these specimens are made and lists properties and test methods that are suitable and necessary to characterize MABS moulding and extrusion materials.
The methods of specimen preparation and conditioning, the specimen dimensions and the test procedures specified in ISO 19066‑2 are used in order to obtain reproducible and comparable test results. Values determined are not always identical to those obtained using specimens of different dimensions or prepared using different procedures.
Who is ISO 19066‑2 for?
ISO 19066‑2 on MABS moulding and extrusion materials is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of MABS moulding and extrusion materials
- Plastic industry
- Chemical engineers
- Automotive and packaging industries.
Why should you use ISO 19066‑2?
Methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (MABS) is a clear engineering and commodity thermoplastic that has rubber particles dispersed throughout a methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile styrene (MMA-SAN) polymer matrix.
ISO 19066‑2 provides the general requirement on the preparation of test specimens either injection moulding or compression moulding of MABS moulding and extrusion materials and also gives information on the treatment and conditioning of test specimens.
ISO 19066‑2 provides general properties and test conditions and additional properties and test conditions of particular utility to MABS moulding and extrusion materials.
Overall, ISO 19066‑2 lets you produce MABS moulding and extrusion materials to ensure transparency, high-impact strength, good stiffness and good resistance to many chemicals by specifying the methods and conditions of test to be used for the acquisition and presentation of data to ensure that valid comparisons between MABS materials can be made.
