What is ISO 240242 about?

ISO 240242 specifies the methods of preparation of test samples and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of PVC resins.

ISO 24024 also walks us through requirements for handling test material and for conditioning the material before testing. In addition, properties and test methods which are suitable and necessary to characterize PVC resins are listed.

Who is ISO 240242 for?

ISO 24024on the preparation of test samples and determination of properties of homopolymer and copolymer resins of vinyl chloride is useful for:

  • Construction industry
  • Manufacture sign designers
  • Healthcare industry
  • Chemical engineers

Why should you use ISO 240242?

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is one of the most widely produced thermoplastic polymers in the world after polyethylene and polypropylene. Its most common use is in the construction industry, but it is also used to manufacture signs, in healthcare applications, and as a fibre for clothing. If a polymer consists of only one kind of monomers then it is called a homopolymer, while a polymer that consists of more than one kind of monomers is called a copolymer.

In order to carry out certain tests on paste resins, it is necessary to prepare standard pastes from the test sample concerned. ISO 240242 has a section on the preparation of standard pastes, which is very important as this will be the initial step in the properties determination process. Properties of polyvinyl chloride can include melt temperature, heat deflection temperature (HDT), tensile strength and specific gravity, these properties can prove to be important when it comes to the safety during the usage of polyvinyl chloride. ISO 240242 will provide you with methods of preparation of test samples and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of PVC resins which will increase safety and reliability within your organization.
