What is ISO 113578 about?  

ISO 113578 is the eighth part in the multi-series of ISO 11357.  ISO 113578 establishes a method for the determination of the thermal conductivity of solid unfilled and filled or fibre reinforced plastics and composites by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). 

ISO 113578 is applicable for materials with thermal conductivities of up to 1 W/(mK).

Why should you use ISO 113578?  

DSC is a thermo-analytical technique, in which the difference in the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of a sample and reference is measured as a function of temperature. ISO 113578 involves the DSC method to determine thermal conductivity on plastic.  

The advantage of using DSC for measuring the thermal conductivity of plastics is that with the same instrument also the specific heat capacity can be obtained. This enables the determination of the thermal diffusivity by dividing the thermal conductivity by the density and specific heat capacity. 

ISO 113578 determines the thermal conductivity in plastic which helps prevent heat transmission and has proven to offer cooling performance comparable to that of metal.
